Financial Crisis The Worst Economic Event Essay

The Financial Crisis was the worst economic event to occur in the United States since the Great Depression in the 1930’s. Millions of people lost their jobs, assets, and life savings as a result. The crisis also affected millions of people all around the world as the event unfortunately made low income citizens in other countries even poorer. The causes of the Financial Crisis are pretty clear, greed seemed to fuel the entire event. Anything that the executives and other high ranking people of financial institutions could do for more money, they did even though it came at the expense of others. Had the government not stepped in and bailed out some of the companies that were on the brink of bankruptcy, who knows how much long the Financial Crisis could have lasted. Now you would think that lessons would be learned by this horrific event, but that is not necessarily the case. While the government took measures to prevent another Financial Crisis America could easily have anothe r Financial Crisis again in the future, and this one may be worse than the first. You always hear people say that greed is the root of all evil, and in the case of the Financial Crisis that is extremely true. Prior to the crisis the housing market was booming and the value of homes were increasing significantly. People were taking out loans and paying mortgages far more often during this time because they were unable to afford the cost of homes due to the large value increase. Political Crisis Free Essays

The recent political crisis in Mali has something to do with the Tuareg people that live in this region and the general religion of the region. The Tuareg people are nomadic farmers. North Africa is primarily Muslim and is heavily influenced by what happens in the Muslim world. We will write a custom essay sample on Political Crisis or any similar topic only for you Order Now Muslim rebel groups like the Ansar Dine seek a nation that abides by Islamic Law. Others like the Islamic Movement for Azawad seek an independent state in Northern Mali and acknowledgement of that state by the world. Mali, like most of North Africa seeks an Islamic government. The NMLA (the National Movement for Liberation of Azawad) is a Tuareg lead group that is fighting for the rights of the nomadic Tuareg people. Mali’s government has never really had much power. In 1979 when the constitution was established Mali still remained under the heavy military control. Then when Mali was a democratic government citizens question the government’s legitimacy when president Toure won in a landslide election in 2002. In 2012 Captain Amadou Sanogo lead a military that ousted president Toure. Also the government has had trouble dealing with rebel groups in the north. Rebel groups like the Ansar Dine and Mujao have taken control of many cities in North Mali. These rebel groups are growing stronger in the passing months, and the government has not been able to stop it. The citizens have had little say in Mali, there was a brief period from 1991 tot the present where the citizens have had a say in the government, the Malian government for the most part has been an authoritarian government. Civilian protest has had little effect on the government in place. The only groups that have been able to make any change are the extremist rebel groups that have taken control of the north. The Mali army is ill equipped to fight this rebel threat. Under president Amadou Toure, the government put their money and resources into fight the MNLA and had ignored the Islamic groups. This allowed the Islamic rebel groups to grow more powerful. Many of the rebels are veterans from Libyan revolution this past year, bringing expertise and powerful weapons into the fray the Captain Sanogo in 2012 promised to fight the Islamic rebels, but the ill-equipped under funded Mali army was no match for the rebel extremists and lost even more control of the North. There are people that have been victims of rebel attacks, some need medical attention, but the government is doing nothing to aid them. The penetration of government policy and laws to the local levels of government has been quite ineffective. Northern Mali is under heavy Islamic control and some parts have been known to follow Sharia law and other Islamic laws. There is a strict dress code on how women should dress. The National government has virtually no power in northern Mali. Mali is a once democratic nation under military influence. The nation is fighting strong resistance from their Mulism and Tuareg communities. It’s government is losing control of the situation and has virtually lost it’s northern half to extremists. Mali’s government has problems distributing goods to its citizens. The Mali government will need international assistance to combat the resistance in the North. Business Model Dilemma of Technology †Free Samples to Students

Question: Discuss about the Business Model Dilemma of Technology. Answer: Introduction: It would be correct to say that the social and the technical systems must work together to have the best result for any organization. We can take various examples of organization where social and technical models are implemented together. Lets take the example of BHP Billiton, which is a large organization in Australia. The company has a strong agenda of helping the society as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility. The management of BHP wants to use technical expertise and system to maximum possible extent so that the social benefits could be delivered to society. The best outcome of the organization is to maintain a balance between profitability and social responsibility. The successful organizations are one that is accountable (Chesbrough Rosenbloom, 2002). The accountability towards the society or the social dimension suggests that organizations should have a plan to contribute towards the society. BHP Billiton uses a practical and standardized approach to integrate social an d technical system. The company has developed a strong ERP system, where different functions of organizations are integrated. These integrations ensure that social and technical objectives of BHP Billiton are met. I believe that one of the best examples of social and technical system working together would be when organizations uses integrated technology and latest technical platforms like mobile, cloud computing to solve societal problems. The integration between the social and the technical system is useful for various internal and external stakeholders of the organization. The large organizations like BHP Billiton have developed a two-way communication channel between the organization and the external world and it enables the organization to keep a close watch on societal objectives. The desired objectives for the perfect mapping between the social and technical objectives are achieved when different internal and external stakeholders work together (Boons Montalvo, 2013). I believe that it is important to create and establish a system of feedback where the external stakeholders can give continuous feedback to the internal stakeholders of the organizations like employees. At the same time, the management of BHP Billiton should ensure that its efforts are not wasted to bring different stakeholders together. In fact, one of the objectives of mapping between social and technical platforms is that the organizational overhead should reduce. Describe your workplace (or an organization you know well if you dont have a job) from a systems perspective (Week 2). Briefly mention the organisations size, sector and product/service, age. Reflect on its structure and design; how the parts of this organisation work together to achieve outcomes. In your opinion, how effective is the managerial subsystem in your organization? Provide an example to support your opinion. Lets talk the example of Qantas Airways. For Qantas Airways, the objective is maximum customer satisfaction and their approach is based on Customer First. The organization has been using system model and system perspective to manage its operations. The system perspective or the system model is a powerful model that large organizations can use. This model provides a singular view of the organization. With this model, the organization is considered as a single system and all the functions of organizations are considered internal to the organizations (Pandey Kumar, 2016). The system view helps the organizations to have a single touch point with the market. It eventually helps the organizations to behave like a single entity. The approach of single entity helps organizations to have effective relationship with the outside world. I believe that it is never easy to implement the system thinking approach. There are various challenges to implement the system thinking approach. I can say that Qantas Airways is one such organization that has been able to implement the system thinking effectively. However, it does not mean that all the organizations would be able to master the art of critical thinking. One of the basic requirements or prerequisite of critical thinking is that different departments of the organization should work together (Bas, 2014). The organization may not be able to master the art of system thinking if it is not able to take entire organization as a single system. In the classical terms, organization as a single system means that the entire organization should have a common vision and common set of objectives and all the employees of the organization should have a common vision to achieve that objective. It is also important to mention that it take time for organizations to implement the system thinking approach. For the implementation purpose, organizations should start with an assessment phase where the organizations readiness about the system thinking is judged (Martinuzzi Sedlacko, 2016). Once the assessment is done the next phase should be framework development phase in which a framework should be developed to bring the system thinking in the organization. While implementing the system thinking approach, it is important that organizations must have a long-term plan in place. Reflect on Human Resource interventions (Week 5) as a means of organizational improvement and complete 1 of the questions below: Have you ever participated in any HR interventions designed to build interpersonal skills, such as team-building? How was it carried out? How effective was it? If you have not been involved in any such interventions, choose 2 HR interventions discussed in the lecture pod that you think have the greatest likelihood of improving organizational performance. Explain why you chose each one. There are various types of HR interventions that organizations can use to improve the performance. Simple defined, HR interventions are the set of practices that human resource managers use with the objective to improve the performance of organization. According to me, the two HR intervention that has the maximum impact on organizational performance are leadership development programs and performance appraisal interventions (Nayak Sahoo, 206). The leadership development programs are important because the growth of the organizations depends on the enthusiasm exhibited by the leaders. I believe that leaders are like and engine and more powerful the engine, more powerful the organization would be. I feel that the leadership development program or leadership intervention is a wide term. If we talk about specific interventions under leadership programs then it would be things like 360-degree feedback system, two way communication, etc. The focuses of leadership development programs are to provide a platform where leaders can continue and develop their skills. It would not be an exaggeration to say that leaders should be effective so that leaders can get the best work done from the employees (Sheehan, 2014). In the end leaders should be able to take responsibility of the team members and employees. Therefore, for organizations, leadership development interventions are the one of the most important interventions that organization s can have. The second intervention would be performance appraisal intervention. It is important that the contemporary organizations should involve themselves in performance based management system. The performance based management system would ensure that organizations are not biased towards employees while doing their performance appraisal. It is important that employees should realize that employees are the most important assets and therefore investment should be made to develop and implement a robust appraisal system. An active and unbiased appraisal system would ensure that employees can have their trust maintained towards the organization. It is critical to get the trust of employees as the growth and development of organization depends on the support shown by the employees. I particularly like the performance appraisal intervention as I believe that performance appraisal is one of the most important thing for employees. In an organizational setting, employees may work for number of factor s. However, it is the tendency of employees to be known for their work. Employees love rewards and they would have further motivation to work if their efforts are being appreciated by the management. Moreover, one of the key aspects of performance appraisal is monetary awards. People want a fair and just compensation for their rewards and they want that their salary should increase with each appraisal cycle (Tongur Engwall, 2014). This justifies the need of strong appraisal system and consequently the need of performance management appraisal system. References Bas, E., 2014. Peyton Place Essays - 20th Century Fox Films, Peyton Place

Peyton Place Peyton Place by Grace Metalious In 1956, a woman from middle class Manchester, New Hampshire wrote a book that shocked the nation. At 32 years old, Grace Metalious wrote the blockbuster novel Peyton Place. It transformed the publishing industry and made the author one of the most talked about people in the nation. Metalious wrote about incest, abortion, sex, rape, adultery, repression, lust, and the secrets of small town New England, things that were never discussed before in conservative America. She interpreted incest, wife beating, and poverty as social failures instead of individual flops. When Metalious published Peyton Place, the country was in the grasp of a new wave of sexual panic. The book turned the ?private? into the ?political.? The avant-garde disturbed the country and critics called the book ?wicked,? ?sordid,? and ?cheap.? Canada declared it indecent and made the importation of the book illegal. Parts of Rhode Island, Indiana, and Nebraska followed suit arguing that the book would corrupt young mind s. Wealthy communities banished Peyton Place. To read Peyton Place was to read it in secret and were sometimes discussed only among the closest of friends. Everyone was reading it ? college and high school students, college graduates, mothers, wives, and even husbands and fathers. In 1956, a sexual act such as sodomy, oral sex, and intercourse with another married person in most states was illegal. Also, abortion was illegal, and birth control was unreliable and in many cases, difficult to find. To many critics, Metalious' book was not scandalous because of its case in point, but because of the sexual pleasures that were received and given by the female characters. Peyton Place begins with Indian summer in 1939. It takes place in a very descriptive, postcardesque New England town. The main story focuses on three women characters and their underlying search for their identities as sexual women in small town America. Allison Mackenzie is the bastard daughter of Constance Mackenzie who had an affair with a married man. She illegally changed Allison's birth certificate and lied to the Peyton Place locals that her husband died. Connie didn't want any of the town folk to find out the truth that the father of her child was a married man because she would become the town gossip of ridicule. She kept this secret to herself, and only to herself until an argument between her and Allison occurred when Connie thought Allison was having sex with one of her friends, and so she lashed out the truth to Allison. As a child, Allison was always teased about being childish, and not interested in boys, and always into books. But as she grew up she was full of confli cting sexual emotions, and after graduating high school, she left Peyton Place to pursue a writing career in New York. Connie Mackenzie, to her neighbors, was a beautiful, young, widow that owned her own thrift store. Many eligible bachelors Everyone had a desire for her and wished to have her, until Thomas Makris, a teacher from New York City arrives into town to take the job of headmaster at the Peyton Place grade school. Thomas pursues Connie and terrified that he knows her secret, she avoids him. He shows up at her house one night and persuades her to a date, which leads to him raping her. They stay together and end up in marriage. As the third main female character, Selena Cross is probably the most significant. She was the same age as Allison. She lived in a shack with her little brother Joey, deranged mother and alcoholic stepfather, Lucas Cross. She lived an abusive life with Lucas drinking, beating her mother, beating her, and sexually violating her. He gets Selena pregnant and she secretly gets an illegal abortion from the town doctor, who forces Lucas to disappear from Peyton Place and never come back or everyone will know what he did to his daughter. Selena works at Connie's store and becomes manager when her mother, stricken with cancer, commits suicide. In 1944, during a snowstorm, Lucas Cross, now part of the U.S. Navy, shows up at Selena's house drunk and coming on to her. One thing leads to another and she kills

Understanding Relative Frequency Histograms

Understanding Relative Frequency Histograms In statistics, there are many terms that have subtle distinctions between them. One example of this is the difference between frequency and relative frequency. Although there are many uses for relative frequencies, there is one in particular that involves a relative frequency histogram. This is a type of graph that has connections to other topics in statistics and mathematical statistics. Definition Histograms are statistical graphs that look like bar graphs. Typically, however, the term histogram is reserved for quantitative variables. The horizontal axis of a histogram is a number line containing classes or bins of uniform length. These bins are intervals of a number line where data can fall and can consist of a single number (typically for discrete data sets that are relatively small) or a range of values (for larger discrete data sets and continuous data). For example, we may be interested in considering the distribution of scores on a 50 point quiz for a class of students. One possible way to construct the bins would be to have a different bin for every 10 points. The vertical axis of a histogram represents the count or frequency that a data value occurs in each of the bins. The higher the bar is, the more data values fall into this range of bin values. To return to our example, if we there are five students who scored more than 40 points on the quiz, then the bar corresponding to the 40 to 50 bin will be five units high. Frequency Histogram Comparison A relative frequency histogram is a minor modification of a typical frequency histogram. Rather than using a vertical axis for the count of data values that fall into a given bin, we use this axis to represent the overall proportion of data values that fall into this bin. Since 100% 1, all bars must have a height from 0 to 1. Furthermore, the heights of all of the bars in our relative frequency histogram must sum to 1. Thus, in the running example that we have been looking at, suppose that there are 25 students in our class and five have scored more than 40 points. Rather than constructing a bar of height five for this bin, we would have a bar of height 5/25 0.2. Comparing a histogram to a relative frequency histogram, each with the same bins, we will notice something. The overall shape of the histograms will be identical. A relative frequency histogram does not emphasize the overall counts in each bin.  Instead, this type of graph focuses on how the number of data values in the bin relates to the other bins.  The way that it shows this relationship is by percentages of the total number of data values. Probability Mass Functions We may wonder what the point is in defining a relative frequency histogram. One key application pertains to discrete random variables where our bins are of width one and are centered about each nonnegative integer. In this case, we can define a piecewise function with values corresponding to the vertical heights of the bars in our relative frequency histogram. This type of function is called a probability mass function. The reason for constructing the function in this way is that the curve that is defined by the function has a direct connection to probability. The area underneath the curve from the values a to b is the probability that the random variable has a value from a to b. The connection between probability and area under the curve is one that shows up repeatedly in mathematical statistics. Using a probability mass function to model a relative frequency histogram is another such connection.

Java Statements (Definition, Types and Examples)

Java Statements (Definition, Types and Examples) Statements are similar to sentences in the English language. A sentence forms a complete idea which can include one or more clauses. Likewise, a statement in Java forms a complete command to be executed and can include one or more expressions. In simpler terms, a Java statement is just an instruction that explains what should happen. Types of Java Statements Java supports three different types of statements: Expression statements  change values of variables, call methods, and create objects.Declaration statements  declare variables.Control-flow statements  determine the order that statements are executed. Typically, Java statements parse from the top to the bottom of the program. However, with control-flow statements, that order can be interrupted to implement branching or looping so that the Java program can run particular sections of code based on certain conditions. Examples of Java Statements //declaration statement int number; //expression statement number 4; //control flow statement if (number 10 ) {   Ã‚  //expression statement   Ã‚  System.out.println(number is less than ten); }

Metropolitan Museum Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Metropolitan Museum - Essay Example It also has a dark violet footpath and a green foreground, with bananas on the left (Tinterow and Galitz 164) This paper aims at analyzing Ia Orana Maria (hail Mary) by Paul Gauguin and comparing it to Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints by Raphael Santi. This piece of artwork is an abstract art given the nature of its theme. This can be explained by the fact that it has its subject from reality but with presentation is different from the perspective in reality. The artist has widely made use of Post-Impressionism, which is the implication of colors and definitive forms with the aim of expressing emotions. This is highly evident in the choice of intensity of color on the faces of Jesus and Mary. This piece of art can be categorized as religious. This is because of the involvement of Jesus and His mother, Mary. Jesus and Mary are known to be associated with Christianity thus the reason for categorizing this piece of art as religious. The piece of art depicts an angel revealing the identity of Jesus and Mary to two Haitian women (Sayre 87). This picture might not have a narrative as we are informed that the artist based much of the content of this piece of art on a photograph of a bas-relief in the temple of the Javanese, situated in Borobudur. This piece of art is an oil on canvas painting with a height of 113.7 cm and width of 87.6 cm. it is located at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York USA. The art piece can be found on the credit line: Bequest of Sam A. Lewisohn, 1951(Sayre 63). Its identification number is 51.112.2. This piece of art was originally meant for some religious or cultural temple because of the religious nature of the subject. Have it had been in a temple the dimensions would have greatly changed. Both the height and the length would have decreased since it will probably not be used for public display. This would also be because the purpose would not have been commercial. This piece of art has Mary with baby Jesus on her shoulder as the focal point. The piece of art has its focal point to the right of the image (Sayre 183). This is to avoid making the focal point dull to look at. The artist also chose brighter colors, for the focal point just to make sure that it remained visible. The printing is also asymmetric because the artist restricts his decisions to the sense of balance. This is evident in the choice of color, texture, value, shape, and size. The artist has used implied line in the development of this painting. This has mainly been applied to emphasize on curves, for instance, on the faces of the people on the art piece the artist uses implied lines to show the nose and the eyelids. The artist has also used contour lines in drawing the angel. This significantly shows that the angel is in motion. This is because of the unclear nature of the angel’s image. The contour lines also help conveying an imaginary three-dimension nature of the angel’s image. The images in this piece of art are highly i llusive. The artist has applied simple overlapping in the case of baby Jesus and His mother, Mary. This enables the artist to achieve an illusionary two-dimension image. The artist has also used the relative size of the images to create an illusion on space. The two women relatively smaller than Mary in this piece of art depict them being further. This is done intestinally to illusionary create the

Assessment of Artistic Quality Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Assessment of Artistic Quality - Essay Example Other types of art include decoration, literature, interactive media, crafts, fine arts, and applied arts (Davies, 2009, 134). Since time immemorial, art has been controversial. Some people may decide to dislike a particular art for various reasons. There have been incidences of art destructions especially those that are not appealing or outrageous to some people. Some artistic creations have been disliked simply because they depicted unpopular parties, individuals, rules or groups. Conventions involving art have in most cases, been conservative (Noà «l, 2008, 45). The iconographic content of art may result in controversies. An example can be derived from the depiction of the new motif of the virgins Soon alongside the crucifixion of Christ. Another example of artistic controversy is that Last Judgement by Michelangelo. This is because it breached decorum by the depiction of not only a duty but also the Apollo Like pose of Christ. This art became a nuisance to many people (Stecker, 2007, 35). The many controversies in artistic designs have necessitated assessments on this artistic project to ascertain the quality before they are displayed in the public domain (Kennick, 2009, 6). In a different generation, artistic evaluation has been done using various criterion. In this situation, I think artistic quality should be assessed before being displayed to the public in order to eliminate or reduce controversies. Despite being in existence, a wider criterion for artistic evaluations, I will in this paper focus on fine art (painting) and discuss three methods to criterion in artistic quality evaluations. These criterions include assessment in artistic style, artistic technique, and line. In most cases, people tend to assess a particular piece of art by attaching their personal feelings to the decisions that they take. The contents of the majority of formal arts throughout history have been determined by the commissioner and the patron instead of a particular artist.

Beh 225 Assignment Diagnosis and Treatment Essay Example for Free

Beh 225 Assignment Diagnosis and Treatment Essay Assignment: Diagnosis and Treatment Beh 225 July 10, 2011 Assignment: Diagnosis and Treatment According to the American Psychiatric Association, there is a fifteen percent prevalence of mental disorders in the United States. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive, is a mental disorder. Symptoms of bipolar disorder include extreme highs and extreme lows with periods of normal mood in between. Manic symptoms are being extremely active, talkative, distractible, unlimited hopes with no follow through, aggression, hostility, and violence. Depressive symptoms are feeling overwhelmed and worthless, loss of interest, insomnia, loss of concentration, and suicidal thoughts. Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. Roughly, 29,000 people commit suicide each year. Bipolar Disorder can create marital and occupational problems as well as financial dismay. Mood disorders are thought to be caused by nature and nurture. Biological factors that may lead to a bipolar episode are chemical imbalances in the brain, hormonal imbalances, and inherited traits. Physiological factors that may lead to a bipolar episode include maladaptive cognitive distortions. The text defines this as â€Å"an illogical and maladaptive response to early negative life events that leads to feelings of incompetence and worthlessness that are reactivated whenever a new situation arises that resembles the original events. † (Morris and Maisto,2005) Studies suggest that women are two to three times more likely to have a mood disorder than men. Being diagnosed with bipolar disorder is a lifelong and reoccurring illness. There are different types of bipolar disorder. The symptoms of bipolar I are severe mood swings from manic to depressive that lasts at least seven days. Bipolar II occurs when mood swings are less manic, or hypomania, and shift back to depressive. When one’s symptoms are not determined to be either of these the disorder is called bipolar disorder not otherwise specified. These symptoms are not as fierce as the I and II characterization. Cyclothymiacs is a mild form of bipolar disorder. These milder forms of symptoms continue to shift over the course of two or more years. When a person has four or more episodes a year they are referred to as a rapid cycler. Although the onset of this disorder usually occurs in the twenties and thirties some children are also diagnosed. Children are more likely to be diagnosed early if they have two parents with the disorder. The child’s odds increase up to seventy-five percent in some cases. Many bipolar patients self medicate with drugs and alcohol. This action can trigger or prolong the symptoms. Bipolar disorder patients are at a higher risk for many diseases. These diseases include heart disease, diabetes, obesity, migraines, and thyroid disease. When one suspects they have bipolar disorder, a doctor needs to be consulted. The doctor will perform a physical examination, interview the patient, and order testing. There is no test for bipolar disorder but these tests will rule out other ailments. After reviewing all tests and lab reports a mental health evaluation will be preformed. Family history will be taken as well as interviewing the family of said patient. Bipolar patients tend to seek help in the depressive state rather than the manic state. This disorder is treated with medications and psychotherapies. Over the course of treatment, several medicines may be tested. The first choice of treatment is a mood stabilizer. The FDA approved lithium in the 70’s for treatment of mania. In 1995, the FDA in treating mania approved depakote. Recently, the FDA in treating bipolar disorder approved an anticonvulsive medication. Anti convulsive medicines are lamictal, neurontin, topomax, and trileptal. Atypical antipsychotic, or second generation, medicines are also used occasionally. These medicines are zyprexa, abilify, seroquel, risperdal, and geodon. These medications relieve sudden and severe mania symptoms. Anti depressants are used in treating the depressive side of bipolar disorder. Prozac, paxil, Zoloft, and wellbutrin are all examples of anti depressants. Mild side effects to medicines include headache, rashes, and heartburn. These side effects usually go away as one get used to taking the medicine. Serious side effects can occur, as with any medicine, such as tardive dyskinesia. This is uncontrollable muscle movement, usually around the mouth, that needs to be discussed with a doctor. In addition to medication, psychotherapy is recommended. These therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy, and social rhythm therapy.

Business Analysis of Peak Garage Doors Inc Essay example -- Business

Business Analysis of Peak Garage Doors Inc INTRODUCTION Peak Garage Door Inc. has set a goal to increase their sales for 2004. Garage door industry is expecting a growth of 2.4% while the management of Peak is looking to increase company’s sales 26.4%. The company currently has 50 exclusive dealers and 300 non-exclusive dealers. Management has three proposals in front of them. The first suggestion is to increase the number dealers in their existing markets. The second recommendation is to develop an exclusive franchise agreement with existing non-exclusive dealers. The third recommendation is to decrease the number of dealers and focus company’s resources on increasing support for the existing dealers. Of course there is an option for them to leave everything as it is. My suggestion is to go with the second recommendation due to the fact that exclusive dealers produced 70% of company’s sales and non-exclusive dealers contributed only 30%. In order for Peak Garage Doors Inc. to reach their sales goal for ‘04 th ey will have to gain more exclusive dealers since they contribute much more profit to the company. THE INDUSTRY The residential garage door industry sales for 2003 were $2 billion; 90% ($1.8 billion) of these sales were steel doors, the type of door the Peak specializes in. Projected industry sales for ’04 were $2.05 billion, representing 2... ... Net Sales $8,452,518.40 Cost of Goods Sold $6,900,000.00 Gross Profit $1,552,518.40 Selling, General and Admin Expense $1,600,000.00 Net Profits Before Taxes -$47,481.60 Choosing option 3 would lead to a loss. Option four is to do nothing. This would mean that everything would stay the same, and Peak could expect a 2.4% increase in sales. INCOME STATEMENT 2004 Net Sales $9,420,800.00 Cost of Goods Sold $6,900,000.00 Gross Profit $2,520,800.00 Selling, General and Admin Expense $1,840,000.00 Net Profits Before Taxes $680,800.00 CONCLUSION According to the calculations, it will be impossible for the company to reach the sales goal of 12.5 million regardless of which option they choose. However the best outcome is with the option number two which is to develop an exclusive franchise agreement with existing non-exclusive dealers.

Water Pollution

Water pollution is when a body of water is adversely affected due to the addition of large amounts of materials to the water. (www. imbgnet. net) There are four types of water pollutions and I’m going to describe each one of them. I’m also going to tell you the solutions that I can up with and how I’m going to get the government and people involved to help. It is a lot of things that we don’t know about water pollution and how bad it is for our health. Every year, 14 billion pounds of sewage, sludge, and garbage are dump into the water. (www. hinkquest. com) Nineteen trillion gallons of waste also enter the water annually and it is a hard thing to clean up. The first type of water pollution I’m going to talk about is Toxic substance; which is a chemical pollutant that is not a naturally occurring substance. This is what we would call man made material that we dump into the water every day. The second one is Organic substance that occurs when an excess of organic matter such as manure or sewage enters the water. This is a natural thing that we as humans can try to stop at a point in time. Water pollution is a point and a non point source pollution in which we are a big factor of. The point source is the waste that we put into the water every day and the way we store the waste that we use. The non point source is like the sewage we dump and we know that we are doing it. One of the ways that we are putting waste into the water is being on the cruise ships. They are dumping the sewage, bath water, and the other material into the ocean. It is killing all of the food and making us sick on a day to day living. Water pollution is one of the worst things that we should ever let happen in the world. Most countries can’t drink or take baths in the water without boiling it first. The non living things that contribute to the cause of water pollution are all the things that we as humans make or use. The thing that we use in everyday living is a big part of the pollution problem. The living things that are affected by this are the people and animals that need the water to survive. People we need the water to do almost everything that we do when we get up in the morning. We have to drink this water, baths with it, and cook with it every day. We should be careful about the thing that we do and how we do it. The more that we pollute the water the more living things will die and our food supply will be cut out. Thermal pollution is the third one I’m going to talk about it occurs when water is used as a coolant near a power or industrial plant. The water is returned to the environment at a higher temperature than it was originally. Some plants treat the water before it is released back into the environment, but they forget to let it cool down before they release it back. Ecological pollution takes place when chemical pollution, organic pollution, or thermal pollution is cause by natural than by human activity. Water pollution is increasingly becoming a large problem that humans con confront. Water is the most valuable resource. Just think of how much humans dependent on clean water. Water is more valuable than gold, can we go a day, week, year without, gold or water? The fact is we drink the water, we use it irrigation for farm fields, cooking, washing clothes, flushing toilets, and industrial process requires water to function. The earth’s surface is covered by 70% water, why fuss of protect water? Only 3% of all water is fresh and drinkable and that 75% is frozen, which leaves a grand total of 1% of the Earth’s surface water is readily available for consumption. Taking the fact into account, one can see why the conservation and protection of our remaining water supply is vital. Water pollution can be stopped, sources of the pollution must be known. Solution is like people, each one is complex as well different. Every part time environmentalist can have a solution to any environmental problem ails this planet. That is not to say that they are always right. We as humans play a major part into what goes into the water and how it gets there. We might not think that we are doing it, but we are. I think that since we realize that we are doing it we can find a way to stop it. The first thing that we need to do is get the big wigs to join in, but before I get into that we are going to talk a little more about water pollution. I think that we can find a better way to store the waste that some of the plants are using. Conversely, are not always wrong either. The solution is the first part, making the solution a reality is second. Water pollution is a problem most everyone would agree does exist. Individuals can do a lot to help with the water pollution problems and aid in the water pollution solutions. By buying organic food and green household cleaners and personal care items to prevent the run off of chemical into ground water. Many pharmaceuticals are eliminated as possible and stay away from meats and the raising used of hormones and drugs. It is important to properly dispose of any paints and varnishes. To implement water pollution solutions is to use less plastics and plastic products and not to litter. Water pollution solutions are very affordable to put into effect. The Unite State research Council has estimated that to do initial clean-up of all contaminated groundwater is over 300,000 sites across the United States it will cost $1 trillion dollars over the course of thirty years. It would average out to 33 cents per person per day. To reestablishing wetlands is to act as a buffer zone to runoff and to assist in filtering pollutants. Less drive to reduce the amount of air pollution being emitted into the environment and minimize the amount of nitrogen deposition. To improve the sewage treatment system to stop the leaks in the pipes. Conserve water, improve storm water management. Monitor watershed. Stop deforestation to soak up the rain water and prevent runoff from occurring. The best water pollution solutions are simply to pressure our government officials here in the United States, to enforce the environmental protections already on the books. The laws is important, if the elected officials is not properly fund enforcement measures and these agencies with those individuals who is committed to protected the environment, and the laws isn’t worth the recycled paper it’s written on. If we can get the government to become a big part in the clean up then we will make a great impact on the world. We will just need the government to help fund the clean up and make sure that we wouldn’t have to do it again. I think that if the government make the law sick then we want have to reclean the water ever again. I think that the benefits will best suit the living things that use the water every day and need it to survive. We want get sick, need to boil it, and we want have to worry about what’s in it. We also want have to worry about the food that we get out of the water having something or dying off. The animals in the world won’t die off so quickly and they won’t have to find water to drink. I think that the challenges will be to get the government involve and the people involved. I think that the most that we will get out of them both is half and that will be a good start. For the most part will be to get the funding for the cleanup and a place to store all the waste that we get out of the water. When it is all said and done we will be able to see a new change in the water. We will be able to look clear through the water and see all the way to the bottom. I think that with the help of every one we can make this happen and at the end we can be ever proud of ourselves. I think that with all the planning and the solutions that we can make it happen before the year is out. It will take a lot of hard work and time, but as a big group we can make it all worth wide at the end. We should look at what this will mean to all living things and how much it will change the world. We can leave this and show the kids to come how beautiful the world can be. We can save many lives and protect the kids of the future America. It will be even better if I can get a least three hundred people from each country to help out right along with their government. The government plays a big part and I will make sure that they understand it to the fullest. I think that we can make a difference in the world if we just put our mind to it. We can’t let the water that we use every day continue to be like this and making us sick. We need to put our foot down and tell them no more with an attitude attached to it. We should take a stand and let the others know that we will not take it anymore. We need to tell them that it is time for a change and the change is now. We need to stand up as one and show the people who are polluting the waters that we will not take any more of this. We need to come up with a way to make this stick and make sure it is there to stay. I think that we can do it and get everyone involves to make this dream a reality for all those to come and the ones that are here to stay. The best aspects of this resteruant are hands down its atmosphere, service, and their famous steaks. The atmosphere of Ruth Chris gives off a classy, romantic, upscale vibe. Through out the resteraunt featured relaxing warm red and gold tones providing the perfect ambience. The walls are comlemented by beautiful modern art and paneled walls. The background music is nice and soft setting the mood to relaxing and comfortable. The lights are dimmed to set that romantic mood and also relaxing mood. Everything about this resteraunt is impressive. Even the bathrooms are impressive. They have hand soap and lotin for your hands. Research design Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches

Research design Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches Case Study Case study is a research method that is usually employed when the researcher might be interested in conducting an explorative study but not prescriptive study. In the research method, the researcher could be free to explore and tackle issues as they arise. This means that the method is flexible, which means that the researcher could address broad questions before tackling narrower questions.Advertising We will write a custom proposal sample on Research design: Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The method is focuses on the context of the study implying that it employs the technique of thick description. This strategy helps in bridging the gap between the theoretical study and actual practice, which allows canvassers to offer a comparison of data (Seglin 2003, p. 8). However, the method is believed to be weak because it is too subjective. This means that the results neith er could be evaluated nor could be implemented since they are the views of the researcher. Furthermore, the method is too expensive since the researcher would have to stay with the researched in order to study their behaviour. This study cannot employ the case study method because of the ethical issues. Since this is an academic research, reliability, sensitivity and issues related to biasness are to be considered seriously before proceeding to collect data (Kothari 2004, p. 71). Interview Interviewing is considered one of the effective ways of collecting data in any research design. However, a number of issues restrict the use of the method. Interview guides enables sampling because the researcher can control it easily. The researcher would easily choose who to interview based on a certain criteria. Moreover, the method is effective since it permits face-to-face interaction. Face-to-face interaction allows the researcher to extract important information from the researched that cou ld otherwise not be extracted from them. Through interviewing, the researcher would be in a position to collect critical information that would not otherwise be captured by a questionnaire. In this proposal, interview method would be employed together with the surveying method. Additionally, the researcher might choose to use visual instruments in case interviewing would be employed.Advertising Looking for proposal on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This would give valid results as compared to using survey method alone. Since the researcher would be available, he or she would ask additional questions hence acquiring additional information that would not have been captured using the questionnaire. In fact, the researcher may engage the researched in an in-depth discussion hence collecting information that is more important. This would be achieved through probing or seeking clarifications in case the researc her would not understand the answers clearly. No question would be left unanswered since the researcher would ensure that the respondent answers all questions. In other words, the researcher would create enough time for the respondent to address all questions (Blumberg Schindler 2008, p. 71). In research, there is no method lacking some weaknesses. Just like all other methods, interviewing has a number of weaknesses. The method is believed to be very expensive in terms of time and resources. The researcher would be required to travel to various places in search of respondents. The method is consumes more time as compared to survey method since much time is taken to interview one respondent. Moreover, geographical features affect the method because it is impossible to reach people in some provinces, especially during rainy seasons. Finally, the method is accused of biasness because the interviewer would ask a question in a way that suggests a particular answer (Hakim 2000, p. 28). S urvey Method This method would be employed in this study because it is an effective way to access a large population. In this regard, a questionnaire would be sent to various employees in various companies. Employees would be requested to give their views as regards to the position of the Chinese small firms. The technique saves time. The Proposal This proposal would take a deductive approach, which would call for the researcher to work from a known hypothesis that convergence or divergence of Chinese small companies would affect positively the economy of the country in terms of performance in the global financial system. Thus, the study would take a top down approach as compared to the inductive approach that would take an up down strategy. To realize the use of deductive approach, quantitative tools of data collection and analysis such as questionnaires and interviews would be used. Quantitative tools would be preferred as opposed to qualitative tools because they would enable the researcher to come up with facts, such as a hypothesis that convergence or divergence of Chinese small companies would affect the economy positively in terms of performance globally.Advertising We will write a custom proposal sample on Research design: Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This would enable the researcher to test and confirm the hypothesis (Taylor 2007, p. 19). This would not be like qualitative tools that first come up with an abstract idea that is followed by creation of theories and concepts about the idea. Lastly, data in quantitative research is believed to be hard and reliable as opposed to qualitative research where data would just be rich and deep. Due to this, the study would take a positivism kind of philosophy. A positivism approach would make the researcher understand more the impact of convergence or divergence of Chinese small companies on the performa nce of the economy of China globally (Crotty 2003, p. 9). Quantitative Research This research is occasionally referred to as factual knowledge and would employ conventional arithmetical and statistical representations to compute categorical results. Physical scientists usually exploit it, though social studies, education and finance have been identified to utilize this variety of study. Quantitative researches would make use of an average design, with a little insignificant inter-subject distinction of engendering a premise to be confirmed or refuted. This hypothesis should be verifiable by mathematical and arithmetical techniques and would be the foundation around which the entire research would be calculated. The design would permit randomization of any targeted clusters as well as to organize groups to be incorporated in the research if possible. A well-designed quantitative design would influence only one variable at ago, or else statistical examination turns out to be burdensom e and open to queries. In an ideal world, quantitative study would be built in a way that permits others to replicate the research and get comparable outcomes. Quantitative design is believed to be an exceptional approach to confirm results and establish or invalidate a hypothesis. The design would be selected in this research since its configuration has not changed for many years, which means it is normal across numerous technical disciplines and subjects (Parsimonious). Subsequent to statistical investigation of the outcomes, an all-inclusive response would be arrived at and the outcome would be legally conferred and published. Quantitative research furthermore would sieve peripheral aspects if suitably planned and the outcomes achieved would be perceived to be authentic and equitable. Quantitative researches are useful for testing the results obtained by a series of qualitative tests, leading to an ultimate responseAdvertising Looking for proposal on education? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Ethical Implications Ethics is considered an important aspect of any research. Ethics would mean proper or professional research, which would be conducted in the best traditions of the discipline. The research would need to observe researcher-respondent relations, which deals with the welfare of the respondent. Honesty, sincerity, justice and responsibility should guide researcher-researcher relationships meaning there should be no criticism. It should not be based on polemic, personal biases or collective interests. Professional ethics means accuracy in data collection, data processing and application of relevant research methods. In this study, issues related to ethics would be addressed by giving relevant notice to the researched. The study population should also be amicably informed in order to get prepared for the study. To brief respondents is usually important because it could perhaps enhance reliability of the study. It would also be ethical to inform people before proceedin g to reseacrh on them. The findings should always be made public to the researched, as one way of ensuring morality in the study. Furthermore, the researcher should always observe research ethics by keeping away from criticism (Creswell 2003, p 40). Research Design There would be two key methods used to gather information in this proposal. The first one would be through a questionaire, which would be administered online to employees in various companies within the Chinese financial system. The questionaire would seek to capture various attutudes of employees regarding convergence or divergence of Chinese small companies. The questionnaire would have four Parts. The first part would seek to capture the biodata information of respondents. The second part would deal with the demography and gender of the respondents. This would be to ascertain the prevalence of views in varoius categories in order to ensure that if any differences would come about, then they would be captured in their d emographic space. The third part would deal with academic credentials and work experience of employees. The motivation for this section would come from the understanding that different sections of population would respond differently to change, based on age and academic credentials. The fourth part would delve on the specific issues relating to the convergence or divergence of Chinese small companies, starting from the understanding of the concept to the possible effects it would have on the economy. The questionaire would also employ a mix of open ended and closed ended questions to capture different aspects of issues studied. Open ended questions would be used because they give respondents more time to figure out their opinions, which would make them volunteer more information related to feelings, outlooks and comprehension of the subject. This would allow the researcher to understand the position of respondents as regards to their feelings towards convergence or divergence of Chi nese small companies (Wittner 2003, p. 12). Open ended questions would minimize some errors that could have been created in the course of research. Respondents would rarely forget answers if given an opportunity to respond freely. Furthermore, respondents could not ignore some questions because they must go through all of them. Open ended questions would generate data that could be used in data analysis by other researchers. In other words, they would allow secondary data analysis. On the other hand, closed-ended questions would be analyzed easily. That is why they would be used in this study. Each response could be coded for statistical interpretation. Nonetheless, closed-ended questions would be compatible with computer analysis package. The technique would be more specific meaning that its answers would be consistent in all conditions. This aspect would be impossible with open-ended questions because each respondent would be allowed to use his or her own words. Finally, closed-en ded questions would take less time to administer unlike open-ended questions, which would be detailed hence time consuming (Saunders, Lewis Thornhill 2009, p. 11). Rationale The questionnaire would be sent to respondents through the internet that is, the researcher would mail the questions to respective respondents. The researcher arrived at this decision after considering time and reseources. The method is costless and less time consuming. Furthmore, the method would allow respondents to reflect on the questions and answer them accurately. Employing research assistants would be problematic because of the complexity of the study. Many people would be reluctant to give their views freely. The method is ineffective because answers would not be independent. The respondent could not have filled the questions personally. Moreover, the method would be affected by the respondent’s level of literacy. One big disadvantage of the technique is that there would be no interaction between the researcher and the researched. This would mean that respondent’s reactions would not be captured. Reactions are important because they give more information regarding the feelings of respondents. Therefore, it was justifiable for the researcher to employ interviews to reinforce the survey method. Generally, the survey technique is considered more applicable where the researcher is interested in numbers, not deep feelings of the respondent. In this study, the researcher would be interested in identifying the number of employees who feel convergence or divergence of Chinese small companies would be the suitable method of acquiring global economic advantage (Xenos Moy 2007, p 34). International marketing strategy International marketing refers to the marketing function of the management but on a global perspective. International brands such as the Johnnie Walker must have strategic marketing features in order to earn them an effective access of the global market. As an established brand, the company must employ specific features in order to improve its market share (Blackshaw 31). Viewing the entire world as a single market requires the consideration of particular demographic factors in order to facilitate the cost effective and profitable production. The United States and the people’s republic of China are two distinct regions with different cultures. This implies th at the market in the two countries differ and therefore requires diverse management operations. Engaging Parents in Their Children's Early Learning Essay

Engaging Parents in Their Children's Early Learning - Essay Example clude parents’ socioeconomic status, education level and living conditions, which have direct bearing on a child’s early learning activities and outcomes. Nonetheless, more important than the above factors is the quality of a child’s home learning environment. Although parents may not have achieved a lot educationally and might be living in disadvantaged environment and circumstance, their regular engagement in their children’s early learning activities has rather tremendous effect in stretching children’s mind and attitudes. Consequent to the positive attitudes, children’s learning progress and development would be enhanced (Desforges, 2003). In fact, children growing up under the care of parents that ensure strong home-learning environments have been shown to be ahead in social and intellectual development by the age of three compared to those in weak home-learning environment. Research reports further show that this trend continues through to age ten. The latest research findings show that the positive impacts of parental involvement in children’s early learning cut across all socioeconomic and ethnic groups and levels of parental involvement. However, the impact of parental involvement has been found to be more profound on the learning achievements of children of the primary age range. In fact, to this age range, the variation in school quality has less impact on early learning compared to parental involvement (Whalley, 2001). Among the aspects of children’s early learning that parental involvement positively impacts on are skills, knowledge, and intellectual simulation at home and at school. With the right parental involvement and contribution, children would be able to learn and copy constructive attitudes towards learning and develop strong... With the right parental involvement and contribution, children would be able to learn and copy constructive attitudes towards learning and develop strong self-images as good and fast learners. Parental involvement in children’s early learning may also encompass guardians and older siblings providing children with one-to-one attention by keenly listening to their words and questions and giving replies that focus on extending children’s thoughts.
